Nautilus Marine Insurance is set to participate in the 40th Hamilton Island Race Week, scheduled for Aug. 16-23, coinciding with the company’s 20th anniversary of serving boat owners across Australia and New Zealand.

The insurance brand, which began operations in 2005, has expanded its reach to over 100 employees in five offices and now covers more than 40,000 recreational vessels in the region.

Insurer highlights industry engagement at major sailing event

Nautilus Marine Insurance’s involvement with Hamilton Island Race Week started in 2022, and the company continues to engage with the boating community through on-site activities, safety initiatives, and direct discussions with yacht owners and crews during the regatta.

Chief executive Lyndon Turner said the company’s ongoing support for the event reflects its commitment to the sector.

“Hamilton Island Race Week is a perfect reflection of what makes this community so special with camaraderie, competition, and a shared love of the water. It is an honour to be part of this landmark 40th edition,” he said.

Turner also noted that attending events like Race Week helps the company stay attuned to evolving customer needs.

“As we reflect on two decades of growth, we’re proud of how closely we’ve stayed connected to the needs of our customers,” he said. “We understand what matters most to them and are passionate about sharing our insurance expertise to match their yachting expertise. We’re on the ground at events like Race Week to listen and stay in touch with the community.”

Regatta’s evolution and industry partnerships

Hamilton Island Race Week, launched in 1984, has grown into a prominent fixture on the Southern Hemisphere sailing calendar, attracting a mix of competitive sailors, recreational participants, and industry stakeholders.

Nick Dowling, CEO of Hamilton Island, commented on the dual milestones for the regatta and Nautilus Marine Insurance.

“To be sharing this milestone with Nautilus Marine Insurance as they mark their own 20th anniversary makes it even more meaningful. Nautilus Marine Insurance has been a steadfast supporter of the boating community and a valued partner of Race Week. Their support continues to enhance the experience for competitors, spectators, and sailing enthusiasts alike. We are delighted to have them by our side for this historic year, as we honour the past and set our sights on the future of this remarkable event,” he said.

Turner added that the company’s support for the regatta is part of a broader strategy to engage with the marine sector.

“It’s about giving back to the people and events that make this lifestyle so rewarding. As we mark 20 years, we’re proud to have been on the journey with so many customers, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter,” he said.

Global marine insurance sector sees changing conditions

The timing of the event comes as the international marine insurance market experiences shifts in pricing and risk, according to Gallagher Specialty’s Q2 2025 Marine Hull & Machinery and War Risks Market Update.

The report noted that the hull and machinery segment is entering a period of softer pricing, especially in London, where competition among insurers is increasing. Despite this, Gallagher Specialty pointed out that rates in some areas remain below technical requirements.

The report cautioned that aggressive growth strategies by multiple carriers could destabilise pricing across the sector.
