Several insurance brokerages have announced acquisitions aimed at growing their regional footprints and expanding their service portfolios. Recent transactions involve Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., The Hilb Group, and Inszone Insurance Services targeting firms across the Northeast, Midwest, and New England regions.

Gallagher acquires Equinox Agency

Gallagher disclosed its acquisition of Equinox Agency, LLC, an employee health and benefits consulting firm based in Emmaus, Penn.

Equinox serves clients throughout Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley and will continue to operate from its current location.

Leadership at Equinox, including Thomas Groves and Dan Gagnier, will remain in place and report to Scott Sherman, who oversees Gallagher’s employee benefits consulting and brokerage operations in the Northeast. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The global brokerage’s last major acquisition in the US was in June, when it made a deal for Wilkins & Associates Insurance Services Inc., a retail insurance brokerage based in Reno, Nev.

Founded by Tom and Melanie Wilkins, it provides commercial and personal insurance coverage to clients in Reno and western Nevada.

Hilb expands P&C business

The Hilb Group reported the acquisition of a New Hampshire-based property and casualty business, effective May 1. The move expands Hilb’s property and casualty services in the New England market.

In April, the brokerage also a Maryland-based employee benefits business to further expand its operations in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Inszone swoops for Snell-Nelson Insurance Agency

Inszone Insurance Services announced the acquisition of Snell-Nelson Insurance Agency, Inc., a Kansas-based firm with operations in both Kansas and Oklahoma.

Founded in 1985 by Monica Meininger, Snell-Nelson specializes in farm and ranch, oil and gas, and personal insurance products. The firm’s decision to join Inszone followed internal negotiations involving Stephenson, Baggs & Guthrie, LLC (SBG-SBS).

Earlier this month, Inszone also acquired Chacon Insurance Services, a Trinidad, Colo.-based agency.
